OUR ROOTS

Yoga Innovations Collective, lovingly known as YoCo, began its journey in 2010 as Yoga Innovations, the first studio to introduce hot yoga to the South Hills of Pittsburgh. From the start, Yoga Innovations fostered a welcoming environment for students of all ages and skill levels. In 2012, Claire Baer became the studio's owner, continuing the mission that yoga should be accessible and enjoyable for everyone—whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner.

In 2024, Yoga Innovations unexpectedly lost its studio space, prompting Claire to rethink the future. During this time of uncertainty and grief, she continually returned to what had made Yoga Innovations so special—the supportive community and dedicated teachers who had been a guiding light in her life for over a decade. Inspired by this, Claire, along with Yoga Innovations teachers Jessica Dowden, Jessica Edelson, Jennette Sheldon, and Caitie Marino, came together with a shared vision of collaboration. Building on the solid foundation of community cultivated over the years, Yoga Innovations was reborn as Yoga Innovations Collective (YoCo). With five passionate owners, each bringing their unique energy and perspective, YoCo thrives as a balanced collaboration where each contributes something special, creating an intentional space with something to resonate with every body.

Our founding principles guide us in creating a nurturing environment where individuals from all backgrounds feel a sense of belonging and can explore personal growth. We empower our students to embrace authenticity, integrity, and self-acceptance, honoring their unique journeys rather than seeking perfection. At YoCo, we celebrate diversity and work to ensure that everyone feels rooted, supported, and inspired to thrive.

Join us on the mat and become part of a community where you can create a stronger, more balanced "you" through the transformative power of yoga.

What to Expect

To make your experience as smooth as possible, please register and sign our waiver online before your first class—this will save you time when you arrive. Plan to come a few minutes early to settle in and meet your teacher. For heated classes, participants must be at least 16 years old; an adult must accompany minors attending adult-only classes.

  • Doors open 30 minutes before class.

  • Stay hydrated! We have a drinking fountain available in the studio.

  • To get the most from your practice, have a light snack 1-2 hours before class, but avoid a full stomach.

  • Let your teacher know about any injuries or conditions you have before class.

Welcome! Our Breakdown Flow, Power Flow I, and Restorative classes are designed for beginners. These sessions move slower and break down each pose to help you feel comfortable. If you’re looking for a gentle introduction to heated yoga, try a WARM class. The heat stays low, allowing you to focus on building your practice without added intensity.

Why HEATED Yoga?

Heated yoga elevates your practice by enhancing both physical and mental benefits. Practicing in a warm environment speeds up metabolism, helping your body burn fat more efficiently and increasing calorie expenditure. The heat causes capillaries to dilate, improving blood flow and effectively oxygenating muscles, organs, and glands. This helps boost peripheral circulation for improved limb function. Additionally, heated yoga supports cardiovascular health and enhances immune function by promoting T-cell activity, making it a full-body workout that strengthens and revitalizes.

Disclaimer:

Always consult your doctor before beginning any new exercise program, including heated yoga. Your health and safety are important; a healthcare professional can help determine if this practice is right for you.

For heated yoga, comfort and breathability are key.

Here’s what we recommend:

  • Light, Moisture-Wicking Clothing: Wear form-fitting tops and bottoms made of breathable, moisture-wicking fabric to help keep you cool. Avoid baggy clothing, as it can trap heat and get in the way of your movements.

  • Tank Tops and Shorts or Leggings: Tank tops and shorts are ideal for heated classes, but if you prefer, lightweight leggings also work well.

  • Hair Ties or Headbands: If you have long hair, secure it with a tie or headband to keep it out of your face.

  • Avoid Heavy Fabrics: Steer clear of thick fabrics like cotton, as they can absorb sweat and feel heavy.

Remember, you’ll be moving and sweating, so choose clothing that lets you focus fully on your practice

You’ll need a mat, a large towel for your mat, a hand towel, and plenty of water. Be sure to wear comfortable, breathable clothing—you will sweat! Please note we practice barefoot.
